EU sets maximum bill limit for internet browsing on mobile phones
People using their mobile phones to browse the internet in Europe can now set a cut-off point for their bills.
Customers will be able to relax more when using their mobile phones to browse the internet in Europe thanks to new legislation from the EU.

The ruling means that network operators across the continent - including Vodafone, Orange, O2, T-Mobile, Virgin and 3 Mobile in the UK - are now obliged to offer subscribers a cut-off point on their bills.

Consequently, people intending to access the internet on their handset while overseas will be able to request that their network suspends their service at a set point - preventing them from running up a huge bill.

Starting this month, operators must offer a €50 (£45) maximum limit, although consumers have the opportunity to set their own cap between now and July 1st 2010.

If they fail to choose their own limit, it will be automatically set at €50 after this point.

The measure has been implemented too late for one UK Orange customer, who managed to run up an £8,000 bill for mobile internet usage while living in Paris last year, the Guardian reported.
